My Mother’s Nurse
My mother’s nurse is a sweet, kind gentle hearted lady. She’s been taking care of my mother for the pass 3 or 4 years now. She has been there through all her trouble and pains, through her breast surgery when my precious mother got both of her breasts removed and til this day she is still with her every weekend, sitting in 6 hours during her chemo therapy. So my mother don’t be alone.
I never understood why she was doing all this until one day she wrote me a letter. She explain that my mother told her everything about me and her, our past, the dark days, she said that she is not writing to judge, but to tell me she understood. She said, my mother pain and loneliness is a reflection of her own, and that she sees her more as a sister and less like a patient and just like my mother got my back and standing with me, she has my mother back and standing with her through all she going through. I finally understand that love, friendship and understanding do come of the most unexpected places. Nurse Kelly, thank you for all you’ve done, you truly are a blessing. I can rest well at night now, because I know that you are my mother’s nurse.

Am I Mute
Am I mute?! That’s how I feel sometimes. It’s like, no one is listening to anything I have to say. It’s like their eyes are closed, refusing to look around, and understand what’s going on. “Why do WE KILL PEOPLE WHO KILL PEOPLE TO SHOW THAT KILLING IS WRONG”, I got that quote from somewhere … hmmm … I can’t remember where … My point, the origin of the quote not needed, to know that it’s – TRUE!!! We are in a vicious circle that’s been going on for years. The same people that say, killing is wrong … are the same people who say, you should die for your sins … hmmm … how contradictory! They scream, “I’m not for killing people – murder is wrong”; but in the very same breath, they say, “but I want to keep the death penalty.” Someone please tell me, “how can you do that … how can that work”, because I’m lost.?! I wish people would open their eyes, their minds, and their hearts. I wish more people would stand up and say, “ENOUGH IS ENOUGH”, and break this vicious circle! I could go on and on with this, but then, I’ just be going in circles! Besides, as I said, I feel like I’m mute!!!

SOON
Every year I go through the same routine. After 14 years one would think it becomes easier, but instead it hurts more and more. It gets harder each year to pretend I’m okay, but I do it, not for myself, but for my daughter.
Over the years I’ve watched her grow up from behind prison bars. I remember a time she used to say, “Daddy, when you’re coming home?” but now she says “Daddy, I know you’ll be home soon, and I’ll be waiting. Just to see the love, and trust in the eyes of something you created is a feeling I can’t explain. I know, she will read this like she did all the others, so this is for you, precious. Daddy coming soon. Continue to do good in school and always pray and never be afraid to dream big.
I love you.

Stand Fast
We have to stand fast in this fight, no one said it would be easy. I’ve seen my brothers fall, tired and weary, but we can’t give up now. We’re so close. I know sometimes it seems like we are surrounded by negativity, but change is almost here.
I’m speaking to my brothers, we are doing one helluva job and I love and respect each and every one of you. Who would have thought that a small group of us could accomplish so many great things. I’ve learned over the years, as I’m sure y’all have, that if we don’t stand for something, we will fall for anything, so my brothers, close your eyes and breathe, remember our goal. Stand fast, because the finish line is right around the corner.

I Believe in Change
I believe in change and I know change is coming. You can see it on the face of society, their hearts are changing. They are ready to say enough is enough! People are beginning to realize that the justice system is broken.
My pen-pal once said, no more putting duct tape on the problem, and hope it goes away, let’s solve it while we still can. She was one of those women that was afraid to speak out because of what others would think about her. Her fear of being an outcast was stronger than her desire to say what she felt. But after years of writing to each other she is now a seasoned fighter against the injustice system, she even got her friends involved. She said, because of me, she had a change of heart and now it’s her turn to change the hearts of many. I believe in change and I know change is coming, one heart a time.

He Came
I had a visiting today with a man I thought I would never see again. I’m 32 years old and the last time I saw him I was 15. I spent 17 years building up my hate and ager for him.
I step on the visiting yard and there he was, this man that so long ago left me behind. So many thoughts went through my head, so many questions I wanted answered and before I could unleash my hate and anger I had for him, he hugs me, and said he was sorry.
I didn’t know what to say, 17 years of hate washed away and all I felt was love and peace. A tear came down my face and all I could say was why you leave me behind. He burst into tears and said, I never should have left you behind and maybe you wouldn’t be in this place fighting for your life.
I saw the hurt, the pain all around him, his shoulders sagging. He said, he knew he let me down and he knew I had faced a life full of struggle. Bach then, my mom was a prostitute/drug addict, his girlfriend. As he cried, he said he knew he had 17 years to make up for, my mind was racing, what am I to say to this man that wouldn’t stop crying. God gave me the words. I told him, the past is the past, we can do nothing about it. Let’s live in the present and not worry about the future. Here and now you are my Dad, and you finally came to get your son.
As our visit came to a close and I got up to leave, he gave me one last hug, looked into my eyes, and said no matter what I got to do, we are in this together. I will fight with you. Please, know I’m here now, I love you my son.
I love you too, Dad!
