Senator Jerry Fielding
Vice-chairperson
Senate Judiciary Committee
1300B Talladega Hwy.
Sylacauga, AL 35150...
Dear Senator Fielding,
A couple of weeks ago, the Huntsville Times published an article written by Kim Chandler referring to your support for "Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson. In the article, Chandler quoted you as
saying, "Phil Robertson’s family values are shared by the vast majority of Alabamians, who are rightfully concerned by the vitriol aimed at his Christian stance." To support Robertson and the
"Ducks," you indicated that you will bring a resolution to the upcoming 2014 legislative session to support of Robertson.
Let me see if I understand this, you are going to spend some of the legislature’s limited time requesting them to support an actor who probably violated his contract with A&E? We have big
economic issues to solve, pending education issues, bills addressing capital punishment issues and you are asking that our legislators spend time promoting a "Duck?"
One day, many years ago, I asked a man if he was a Christian? I loved his response. He said, "You tell me, if I am a Christian, what do you hear me say?, what do you see me do?, and who do I
follow?" His words and actions most definitely showed his love for his "neighbor" and his love for "God." He definitely followed Luke 10:30-37. He loved his neighbor, and because he loved his
neighbor, he loved God. He had faith in Jesus, but more importantly, he had the faith of Jesus.
Don’t waste the legislatures time trying to gain support for Mr. Robertson. What good will that do for Alabama? Instead, use that time to pass SB 30-34. Let’s use our time to love the 198+
inmates on death row. They are "our" neighbor and should receive our love regardless, mercy, forgiveness, and kindness. Have the faith of Jesus and drop the plan for this insignificant
resolution.
We are down to 14 days before the 2014 session begins. Save our state millions - pass SB 30-34. By passing them, we make sure that we do not kill another innocent prisoner/victim.
Sincerely,
Sam L. Sullins
